Harry Potter 5 Release Party

I was actually at Pages For All Ages for the release of the fourth Harry Potter book, entirely by coincidence, but I didn't understand the phenomenon at the time. This time, having read the books back in 2001, I was prepared. Me, Sarah, and Mark went out to the midnight release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, dedicated to buying copies and generally fighting with the young children. I got my wish, and had far too good of a time in the process.

The crowds
Most of this area isn't even a parking lot!
Midnight
This was about fifteen seconds after the book was
Tania
I hadn't seen Tania for years! I really oughta call her back at some point... (she was in Like Disco with me for a couple of years).
Snacks and Costumes
I shoulda gotten one of the hats.
Lines
So many people! So much order! Well, close to it, anyway; off at the left is where I almost got through the line early, when some kid pointed it out to me later on. So close...
Lines Again
I tried to avoid the lines most of the time. It was for the best.
Lines from the Sci-Fi Section
This was the very back of the store. I did recognize several people here...
Lines of Little Kids
They even got distractions on the way. BTW, always remember that little kids know a lot more than we're willing to give them credit for.
Varying heights in line
But everyone's happy.
End of the Line
This is where they were selling us stuff. Look at all those copies of the book... and those were the reserves!
Cute Kids
Up past their bedtimes, eh? This is one of the cutest shots I've ever taken.
Complete Idiot's Guide to Nazi Germany
I found this amusing. Mark and Sarah found it amusing enough to humor me and get a picture with it.
Sorting Hat
The Sorting Hat is, of course, a regional interest.
Sleeping child
Under Rock/Pop. I'd like to think this is some kind of commentary on the state of the music industry...
Girl That Gave Me A Button
I got a Harry Potter button during this event, which I took as a privelege and a good excuse to flirt a bit with a cute girl, pictured there on the left talking with a bunch of kids...
HRBNGR 4
A good license plate shot, that we took on the way out at 1:30am, exhausted but carrying three copies of the book. Aaah...

Oh, and the book rocked, too.
