Mom's Day Flower Show 2005
The highlight of this year's Mom's Day Flower Show was that the whole event was dedicated to my Dad! They had been saving this for the 50th Anniversary, since Dad had been advising them for much of the last decade... The whole thing was organized as a surprise for my Dad, who managed to not see through the subterfuge despite all the clues. It was great.

Sneak Preview
Only one way to find out...hey, it's Dad!
Beth and Margaret
We had all shown up to see Dad get this award, of course.
Tim and Margaret
You can tell how excited we are at this hour of the morning.
Tim, Beth, and Car
The sod-car was pretty neat, even if the light was bad.
First Customer...
...no, wait, that's Lori Kae.
First Customers, For Real
People really did want to get there early, apparently.
Gardens
The students always put an insane amount of work into these things.
Gazebo
I mean, would *you* put up a gazebo for a weekend?
Hula Girls
And they dress up! So strange...
Parents Arrive
Dad's first order of business is always "greet the students"...
Smily Dad
He seemed excited to see me. He didn't suspect why I was there, though...
Early Customers
Just looking at everything that's around.
Still-Oblivious Dad
He sitll hadn't worked out why he was there.
Starting the Speeches
The first order of business: thank everyone for coming!
Kevin
Well, and everyone else that was blinded by the light.
Perked-Up Dad
Notice that he had *wandered off*. We thought we were going to lose him!
Expectant People
Everyone here was in on it. Everyone.
Victory Revealed
Behold! Dr. Skirvin, this is dedicated to you!
Dad Gets It
...and starts standing up to check it out.
Accepting his Award
He really was proud.
Speech!
Well, reading the pamphlet anyway.
Dad and Kevin
It'd have been a good shot with decent lighting. At least you can see Dad's maniacal grin.
Students, Dad, and Car
Dad loved that car too.
Dad and Poster
I have no idea where they found those pictures.
Applauding People
I believe they were all trying to get him to tell his Fainting Goats story.
The Poster Board
You can read it all if you zoom in. Yay!
Honorary Pickle-Jars
Several students made pickle-jar arrangements this year, to honor Dad's work (and silliness).
Dad and Kevin, II
There, this lighting is better. Kinda.
Dad and Other Student
I don't recognize him, but I think he's the current president of Hort Club.
Picture Board
Commemorating the work the students put into this.
Volcano
An interesting garden layout...
St. Louis Arch
After the apocalypse, when plants have grown all over it...
Dad's Pickle-Jar
Dad *always* does a pickle-jar arrangement for these things.
Dad's Pickle-Jar, II
This year, he included a ketchup bottle too!
Dad's Pickle-Jar, III
The label: "Trying to Catch Up".
Gardens
More of the exhibits at the flower show...
More Gardens
...there were dozens like this. There are *always* dozens like this. It's scary!
Vase Flowers
Wow! These are a good deal.
Beth and Flowers
She *really* liked the flowers I got her.
Beth and Tim with Flowers
"What, my picture's being taken?"
Beth and Tim with Flowers, II
I need to smile more in life. It'll keep Beth from killing me.
Hannah and Darren
A nice shot of the pair of them. At least Hannah is a morning person.
Parents and Hannah
They seemed to like her.
Dad, Straightening Glasses
I think he decided to pose doing this for once...
Huge Crowds
We came back after brunch with Mom to find, well, billions of people.
Long Lines
People were waiting a pretty long time just to buy a few flowers.
Huge Crowds, II
But this is really Dad's element. That's why it was all dedicated to him.
