Wisconsin Trip - 16-17 Jul 2006

Beth and I decided to make an annual thing of it this year as we returned to Spring Green, Wisconsin. We saw some shows, we hung out with Jacob, and we enjoyed being cut off from the world. And we'll probably do it again next year, as long as Jacob stays...

...but truly, the highlight of the trip was the Mustard Museum, in Mount Horeb. It was excellent, and photogenic, experience.

Images
Jacob's Apartment
Just across the street from his favorite bar. It's a good life.
Jacob
I need to pick up the Sluggy book he's reading.
Jacob's Stick
It's always worth documenting that this stick still exists.
The Mustard Museum
The goal of our trip to Mount Horeb. I was not prepared for its glory.
Amber
Amber had come along for the trip.
Jacob
Jacob, of course, led us here.
Mt. Horeb Post Office
I figured Dad would be happy to see that it existed.
Hit and Run Sign
In the mustard museum window; it apparently referred to a type of horseradish and mustard.
Poupon U Paraphernalia
And this is just the stuff in the window!
Security Alert
"All visitors to the Mustard Museum are subject to search for ketchup and mayonnaise. Please do not attempt to bring containers of these contraband condiments into the building."
Out of Mustard
This is the best poster in the store. I want one.
Mustard Mural
Die, ketchup!
Refrigerated Mustards
Most of them were out, but some needed to stay cold.
Mustard Tasting Station
There were lots of these strewn about...
Lots of Mustards
...but this was the motherload.
Taste Testing
We tried a couple of dozen varied mustards here. It was fun!
Fruit Mustards
This is really Dad's kind of place.
Mustard Museum - the Museum
We eventually went into the museum half, instead of just the store.
Shelves of Mustards
Guess what? There were a lot of mustards there!
Illinois Mustards
A whole set of shelves just for our home state...
Kiwi Mustards
Haha! Illinois has more mustards than New Zealand! (Of course, there's more of us, too.)
Aussie Mustards
This one actually let me see the sign...
Aussie Mustards, II
...and this one was a better overview.
Mustard Geography
Part of Poupon U, the mustard University.
Mustard Dispenser
For when you need an IV drip of mustard.
Tins of Mustard
Dry mustard? Not my thing. (I'm glad they didn't have mustard gas there, come to think of it.)
Mustard Costume
This would make for an excellent costume.
Mustard M&Ms
The yellow ones are meant to signify mustard? *shiver*
Tubular Mustards
I guess you can squeeze them out too.
Poupon U Fight Song
"On our hot dogs / On our bratwursts / Mustard is so cool!"
Poupon U Slogans
#11: "Okay, so mathematics is not our strong suit."
Poupon U Banners
"Pardon me, but... POUPON U"
A Fair
There was a summer fair going on in town after we left the museum, fairly coincidentally.
Hanging Apple
I should get stuff like this for Dad.
Twirly Things
Beth likes these kinds of things.
MHTC
Mount Horeb Telephone Company. I like the acronym, for some reason.
Grumpy Troll
We ate lunch here. It was pretty tasty.
Beer Sampler
I even helped out in finishing these things up...
Thirsty Troll Brew Fest
Trolls are important in this town.
Troll Crossing
I just couldn't figure out where to put one of these signs.
Jacob
A bit too bright, but not a horrible picture anyway.
Amber
Is it bad that the first thing I think to write is "out of focus, dammit!"
Tim
See? The picture of me was fine!
Please Don't Sit Here
I really should have taken that sign.
The Fair
Finally, after lunch, we wandered around and checked out the fair.
The Gourd Guy
That's who I want to be some day. No, wait, I don't, nevermind.
Troll Statue
Can't I have one of these, at least?
Trolls and Cats
A stuffed troll, a book about cats, and a woman that apparently likes both. Whee!
Meeting the Author
It was a kid's book about trolls. Beth almost brought one back for Borders.
Nice Canoe
Jacob entered the raffle to win this thing. I have to admit, it was a pretty piece of work.
Junk Sculptures
I should get stuff like that for the front yard. If only Beth wouldn't hate them...
Junk Cat Sculptures
I wonder if she'd go for one of these?
Toe Rings
That's a specialty shop.
More Troll Sculptures
I like having towns full of these things.
More Troll Sculptures, II
They're all cool looking...
More Troll Sculptures, III
...I want my town to have cool character things like that.
Lemonade
It was a hot day; we needed the drink.
Auds-n-Ends
A cute sign, certainly.
Mustard ATV
In Mount Horeb, everything is mustard-spattered.
Beagle
Beth got this picture, I believe.
Happy Lemonade
Cold liquids, aaahh...
B is for Badger
That's good enough for me!
Old Cars
When looking outside of a Culver's, what do you expect to see?
Old Cars, II
For my part, I don't expect to see a few dozen 1930s-era cars.
Old Cars, III
Or whatever they are, anyway. I really don't know how old they are.
Old Cars, IV
But they sure were pretty.
Old Cars, V
I was just stopping for gas, before we headed to Madison...
Old Cars, VI
I think that the others were a bit annoyed at me for getting back late.
Old Cars, VII
I was just happy to get the nice pictures.
Old Cars, VIII
Too bad for them, they missed it.
Old Cars, IX
No, I don't actually want to own any of these.
Old Cars, X
But I'm happy to see 'em.
Beth, Amber, and Jacob
It's a nice picture of 'em.
Walk Closed
Beth, come back!
Amber and Ice Cream
We stopped for ice cream after lunch, which was silly because we were also full, but... mmm, ice cream!
Tim Faces
I believe that these were taken because Beth complaints that I never smile in pictures.
Tim Faces, II
Well, this is what I'm normally like.
Tim Faces, III
And this is not.
Tim Faces, IV
But I think this is what Beth was really looking for.
