Seattle Trip, 07-12 Jul 2004

In July, Beth and I spent a week in Seattle. While I never actually wrote up my full thoughts on it, it was still one of the most relaxing trips I've ever taken, as well as a whole lot of fun (and more than a little bit romantic). I can't say I loved every minute, but I loved virtually all of it...

The short of it: we stayed at her Aunt Susan's place. We visited my brother Danny, who was working at the Seattle and Tacoma zoos. I had just gotten myself a new camera, so I took a whole lot of pictures.

Additional galleries: the Zoo, the Aquarium, the San Juan Islands, and the Asian Festival.

Images
Beth at White Castle
Before actually heading out to Seattle, Beth had to show me her digs. She had worked here for two years...
Rainbow
A nice full-sky rainbow; Beth claims people reported seeing it back in C-U.
Simone's Lemonade Stand
Beth's cousin runs one of these every now and then. The lemonade was quite good. (And I am embarassed to say that this was the only shot of the family I got...bad Tim!)
Beth and Cat
Cat! (I don't remember which one fhis was...)
Cat
Either Jessie or Chester.
Cat, II
He was at least a cute cat.
Beth
I actually like this shot a lot. She's even wearing a shirt I got her the week before in Virginia!
Tim
Also Beth's first shot with my camera.
Tim, II
She really liked my camera.
More Cat
I like taking pictures of cats.
Across the Street
This gives a good idea of the neighbourhood feel...
Beth, II
If you're wondering, we're waiting for my brother to arrive to take us to dinner.
Regal Cat
The cat really does look *right* here.
More Regality
Come on, Danny...
Danny Arrives
Finally! (Mapquest had lied to him and sent him on a convoluted path.)
Danny
That's my little brother.
Aunt Susan's
Danny had to see the place; he enjoyed all the pictures.
View from Danny's Place
It's actually our old college friend Chris' place. This is the second story view. There's a third story.
Danny and Beth
Don't grow too attached to that facial hair of Danny's. Like Beth did.
Flowers
Dad's horticultural leanings have taughed me to always take pictures of gardens. Well fine, not always. Sometimes.
View from Danny's Place, II
Third story this time. It's not bad...
View from Danny's Place, III
It makes me want more lenses, though.
Danny Again
This is the room Danny lived in for the summer. He looks pretty proud, neh?
Both Cats
In the dark, you can tell how alike they look (and why I'm so poor at labelling them).
Stretching
I want a cat, if you can't tell.
Waiting Around
If I could just see the nametag...
Seattle Art Museum
Beth hated this shot. Too bad; it's an amusing way to start Day 2...
Seattle Art Museum, II
This wasn't much better. But I enjoy cheesy posing...
Fountain and Beth
Not the best framing; I'm still getting used to the new camera.
Fountain and Beth, II
Better. Acceptable, anyway.
Tim in Seattle
I look pretty content, actually.
Tim in Seattle, II
Beth was really enjoying the camera by this time...
Beth and Statue
Still annoyed at me...
Weird Fountain
Just outside the aquarium, which is where the next shots are.
Trip to Victoria
Beth wanted to go, but we didn't have our passports.
Sci Fi Museum
Half the reason I wanted to go to Seattle...
Sci Fi Museum, II
They didn't allow cameras. Damn them. (It was cool if you liked sci-fi; if you don't, just avoid it.)
Fancy Fountain
This is what Beth remembered from Seattle.
Fancy Fountain, II
Lots of kids were playing in it.
Fancy Fountain, III
The game was "run up and touch the thing before the water hits you".
Fancy Fountain, IV
The kids generally lost. But it was fun to watch.
Fancy Fountain, V
Note that this is also the thing that *I* remember from Seattle as a kid.
Fancy Fountain, VI
It's a cool fountain.
Fancy Fountain, VII
And I used to be one of those kids...
Farmer's Market
I had to get at least one shot of Pike's Place. It's a cool place...
Back to Cats
It always comes back to cats with me.
Back to Cats, II
The last shot of the cats we got before we left.
Mammus Clouds
As we started to head back to Champaign from Chicago, we saw a pretty impressive set of clouds...
Mammus Clouds, II
Of course, they apprently portended a huge storm back in C-U, but we missed it so that's okay.
Mammus Clouds, III
I should have gotten a lot more pictures than this. They were *cool*.
Beth and Mom
Aww...
