Millenium Park - 07 Aug 2004

Three or so weeks after opening, I went with Beth's family to visit the new Millenium Park in Chicago. It was a fairly neat place, and certainly a good place to bring a camera...

Images
Tim In Suit
The actual reason for the trip to Chicago was to go to a wedding; this is what I looked like dressed up for it.
Jellybean
I don't know what it's actually supposed to be called, but it's pretty neat.
Waterfall
From a distance it's not that impressive; you can't seven see the water.
Jellybean, Closer and Below
I do like the reflections of the city behind...
Cafe and Cityscape
I think we were standing where the ice rink sits during the winter.
Waterfall Fountains
Apparently better referred to as Crown Fountain.
Kids in Fountain
At least this time you can see the water.
Fountain Screen, View 1
A waterfall in the waterfall. It's a good sense of scale here, too...
Sitting in the Fountain
I should have asked who the person was. Oh well.
Playing in the Water
The space in between may as well have a playset in it.
Fountain Screen, View 2
A nice shot showing off the whole setup...
Jellybean, Even Closer
"Cloud Gate", by Anish Kapoor.
Jellybean and Reflections
Much cooler than a mirror; you can see Beth and her parents behind me.
External Distortions
Not too distorted here...
Internal Distortions, I
...especially compared to here.
Internal Distortions, II
The lack of tripod, and resulting shakiness, is actually kinda cool.
Internal Distortions, III
Looking straight up from the center.
Internal Distortions, IV
At least you can see me in this one. Or I can recognize it anyway.
Beth's Building
Beth really likes the building in the center, so I got quite a few shots of it...
Pavilion
Apparently the Jay Pritzker Pavilion. It's a nifty performance location...
Concert in the Pavilion
There was actually something going on when we showed up!
Concert in the Pavilion, II
We never figured out which orchestra, sadly.
Pavilion Crowd
I was actually taking the shot for the sound system but this works.
Pavilion Overview
This was from pretty far back; it gives a nice view of the stage, crowd, and actual pavilion setup.
Rows of Trees
The Lurie Garden, apparently. The trees seemed too closely packed.
Beth's Building, II
For reference, I probably got a shot only every time she mentioned it.
Chicago at Dusk
A view from the BP Bridge.
Grant Park Film Festival Sign
The only times I've been in Grant park have been during the Taste of Chicago... so I've never seen it this empty.
Buckingham Fountain
With Beth in the corner.
Buckingham Plaza
People and Fountain. I like this shot.
Fountain with Lights
It had started playing its music and such.
Fountain and Beth
I like this duskshot.
Tim and Beth
It took a while to coax Beth's Mom to take the shot, but it turned out okay.
One Last Fountain
As it gets darker and more lights are turned on, it becomes neater...
Beth on the Waterfront
She loves the water.
Beth's Family on the Waterfront
...as do her family.
Chicago at Night
Here I learn again why I need a tripod.
Stage at Night
Still need that tripod...but you can at least see that it's there.
Fountain Screen, View 3
We went back to see it in the dark; the colors are more impressive now.
Fountain With Water
Periodically, the fountain dumps extra water. Here's one of those times.
Fountain Screen, View 4
Another face. The face ones are definitely creepier than the landscapes.
Spitting Fountain
I find it amusing that it does this.
Spitting Fountain, II
And I just hope that they don't get too creative with it in the future.
