Seattle Aquarium, 08 Jul 2004

As part of our Seattle trip, Beth and I went to the Seattle Aquarium. I wasn't looking forward to it very much at first, but it turned out to be a whole lot of fun... for the otters, if nothing else. (Oh, and be happy that I trimmed this down from well over 100 pictures...)

Images
Tube O'Sea Creatures
Jellyfish in a tube that you can walk under. Neat.
Beth and Jellyfish
The flash was bad, but Beth looked good and contemplative.
Tim the Jellyfish
Why do the "face-in-the-animal" photo opportinuties never get old?
Tim Plays
For that matter, petting zoos don't go out of style either. Lucky aquariums.
Tub O'Sea Creatures
There were a few places where you could touch sea cucumbers, starfish, and the like. This was the closest thing to a shot that turned out.
Puffins
I didn't get too many shots of birds. This is one of the few.
Under the Fish
I forget what the purpose was, but hundreds or thousands of fish swim above you in this part.
Under the Fish, II
It makes for a great photo, anyway.
Beth and More Fish
Beth loves fish, so this was really as cool for her as the zoo was for me.
Anenome
Wow, this picture turned out well.
Fish, Anenome, and Urchins
An interesting (well, normal, but pretty!) mix of animals.
Longing Beth
I'm sure I looked like this when we saw the sea otters...
Big Fish Tank
This is where they keep the sharks and such.
Shark
I should have taken down the variety.
Shark, II
(I keep wanting to say "cultivar". Species! Species!)
More Sharks
My flash hurts, though.
Giant Goldfish
Or something like that.
Watching the Seals
You can tell by how many people are watching these guys...
Seals
...just how cool they are!
More Seals
They were just playing and playing...
Seals, Seals, Seals
Effortlessly, gracefully...it's great.
Seals, Above-Water
And they were still neat above water...but there was something greater to come.
Sea Otters
Sea otters! Oh, they were fun to watch!
Sleeping Sea Otter
Sleeping in the water. How cool is that?
Playing Sea Otters
But they play when people are around, it seems.
Playing Sea Otters, II
(At least I hope they're just playing.)
Sea Otter and Ball
That's one toy...
Sea Otter and Toy
Definitely the best picture of the bunch.
Sea Otter and Toy, II
This time there's two of them...but it still not as good as that last shot.
Seals
But eventually I had to forsake the joy of the otters and go back to the seals.
More Seals
They were having fun too, but they weren't so photogenic about it.
Beth and the Seals
Given that she didn't have the camera, Beth spent more of her time watching them than the otters.
River Otters
Sleeping, so not as cute as the Sea Otters, but cool nonetheless.
Octopus
Next up in really cool shots: an eight-legger!
Octopus, II
He really was giving us a great view here.
Octopus, III
And by here I was unobscructed by children...
Octopus Suckers
A good scale shot...
Octopus Suckers
And you lose the scale here, but it still looks good.
Octopus Suckers
The absolute bottom of the creater. So neat!
Other Octopus
A top view this time. Handy.
Other Octopus, II
I think it's a different color too.
Baby Octopus
Aww! (Well, it's probably full-grown but smaller.)
Tropical Fish
Beth wanted shots of these guys.
Tropical Fish, II
As I said, she really likes fish...the owning kind, not the eating kind.
Lion Fish
These are the kinds of things she wants in an aquarium some day.
Lion Fish and Other
They do look cool together.
Nemo Tank
According to Danny, essentially every Aquarium does this now.
Nemo and Marlin
Best to capitalize on this stuff while you can, I guess.
Dory
Danny seemed offended. Beth was amused. Beth won.
