Wedding Proper - 19 May 2007, 2pm - 5pm

Though the wedding took place in a church, it'd be hard to say that Beth and I take much stock in ceremony. About 180 people were fit into the Unitarian Universalist Church in Urbana - where I had gone to nursery school decades before - and sat through the ~5 minute ceremony, written by myself and performed by the Pastor Axel Gehrmann. It was short, to the point, and, to my mind, absolutely wonderful. And as we came out, escorted by our closest friends, we were finally married.

Note that the ceremony is reproduced here. And that most of the pictures here were taken by Himanchu and Josh Tolbert.

Images
Jacob in a Tux
The tuxes were kindof shadow-pinstriped, with silver vests/ties. The boutonnières were green and purple.
Pat in a Suit
Pat, as an usher, got to just wear whatever was comfortable. It suited him.
Paul and Linda
They needed a good picture of the two of them, and this certainly fit the bill.
Paul and Linda Kiss
I'm happy to see the two of them so happy.
Shocked Beth
We decided that it would be good to take some large number of the pictures ahead of the ceremony.
The Girls
And the ushers. I'm not sure how that went together.
The Bride
Hey, I married her! She's pretty!
The Bride, in Context
I really do like the church, too.
The Bride, II
But I like looking at Beth in her dress more.
The Bride, III
And I like her smile most of all...
Waiting in Line
Eventually, more pictures would be taken of us...
Beth and Parents
It's nice to see them truly proud of her.
Beth and Parents, II
It's also nice to see that they were focusing on the proper camera most of the time (ie Not Mine).
Hallway Gathering
There was still plenty of organization to handle in the hallway at this point.
Tim and Beth's Parents
Beth and I are in a world of our own...
Tim and Beth's Parents, II
Well, everyone else's smile was good.
Beth and Tim's Parents
I certainly know that my parents are happy to have Beth in the family.
Beth and Tim's Parents, II
They're so happy to see that I have finally found my match.
Best Man Jacob
Guarding the buttons? I guess.
Stained Glass
More shots of the pretty church never hurt.
Tapestry #1
I think this was Josh getting used to the camera.
Tapestry #2
Not that I'm complaining, I wanted these shots.
Tim Enters
The music had changed, so it was about time for me to walk in, escorted by my parents.
Mel and Darren Enter
Next up come the pairs of our friends. Mel and Darren entered first.
Caitte and Rob Enter
And then came Caitte and Rob.
Eva and Dana Enter
I still wish we could have had all same-sex couples entering. Oh well.
Danny and Lindsay Enter
Hey, they knew who to smile at!
Jacob and Danielle Enter
Our Best Man and Woman, the final attendants, were the next to come, followed by...
The Bride Enters
...Beth, escorted by her father and her mother.
The Bride Enters, II
This always requires more pictures, of course.
Beth's Walk
And there she goes, with her parents.
Tim's Vows
I believe that, at this point, I was reading my vows off of notecards. We had decided that memorization could only lead to error.
Beth's Vows
I'm happy that I didn't choke up. Instead, I just smiled. And you can see it from here.
Bouquet Hand-Off
We can't put the ring on her finger while she's holding the bouquet.
Sliding On Her Ring
We had to move the engagement ring first, of course.
Sliding On His Ring
This was the first time that ring had been off of my hand for any length of time.
Vered's Reading
The Rumi poem was fun, but I still wish that we'd left in the "my fields are on fire" line.
Holding Hands
For the declaration. Can you see our smiles? I can.
Waiting to be Told
Soon, we shall kiss for the very first time.
''You May Kiss The Bride''
It was a good kiss. A very good one. *smiles in memory*
Kiss Aftermath
And just looking into her eyes at that moment was the most intimate public moment I remember.
Tim and Beth Exit
The Final Fantasy Overworld theme had come on, and the time had come to leave.
Smiling Couple
For some reason, I think we look happy. That's not just an illusion, is it?
Departing Couple
Beth's dress ruled. And she got a bit grumpy at me because I had to greet people on the way out.
Danny and Lindsay Exit
I guess that Jacob and Danielle got skipped? Oh well.
Dana and Eva Exit
Both looking proper and ceremonial. I'm glad I have external evidence that they were having a good time.
Rob and Caitte Exit
I still wish we'd had Caitte matched with Darren.
Darren and Mel Exit
Did Mel pause for the picture? Quote possibly.
Patient Minister
Waiting for us to all finally file out. Total ceremony time: 11 minutes, 39 seconds.
