Ray & Mel's Wedding - Reception

The reception was held at the Regent Ballroom after the wedding. Everyone was there. I had an insanely good time - and I caught the garter! It's a matched set with my bouquet...

Images
Arriving at the Reception
Just a few minutes rest, that's all we need... (Jill, Erin, Char, Ken, Henry)
Jacob's First Drink
A White Russian. I'm shocked.
The Couple Arrives
And they're still happy! Huzzah! (John, Ray, Mel, Sarah)
Wedding Party Introductions
I didn't get my camera to Jeff fast enough to get a shot of me, but that's okay; here's Henry and Gen.
Jacob and Charlotte, Incoming
I think I'm really more excited about the sheer numbers of people around us...
John and Erin
...both that they're happy, and that I know them.
Ray and Mel
Poppers! I didn't see poppers! [...] Well, I guess I saw their droppings later, but I didn't make the connection for some reason.
Parents
Mom and Dad came for the reception, which was cool. (Also of note: Chuck getting a shot of me on the left.)
Kevin
It'd been a while since I'd seen him. Yay!
Wedding Party Table
Well, part of us anyway. And the flash. But at least you can see me sitting there, patiently...
Wedding Party Table, For Real
That's all of us this time.
Best Man's Toast
John makes comments about how both of them had vowed never to marry...
Iron Matron's Toast
...and Erin just comments on how right they are for each other.
Dinner Begins
Well, I had been eating for a while at this point, but for most people...
Dinner Continues
Those were tasty veggies.
Dinner Continues, with Tripod
The tripod was a good idea. I should have used it more.
Wedding Table, From Me
This is the closest we got to actually getting a picture of the food.
Camera Commences
Time to get shots of the various tables, starting with my own.
"American President" Table
Darren, Jeff, Rebecca, Tim, Chuck, Kevin, Sarah, and Kevin.
"Eternal Sunshine of..Spotless Mind" Table
Pat, Beth, Hadas, Tunji, Smoot, Bill, Duck. Ben's lack of presence was also noted.
"Empire Records" Table
Sean, Rachel, Eva, Jon, Andrew, Nicole, Randall, Caitte.
Rachel's Camera
I think I really took this picture to get a shot of the label...but that's okay.
"High Fidelity" Table
I didn't get everyone here. DB, Raché, Sarah, and Jesse are visible; Rene, Erin Burns, and her Boy are not.
"American Beauty" Table
Mostly Mel's family. I recognize Donna and my Father here, but that's about it... (Bad Tim!)
Wrong Name
Poor Beth. She hates it when people spell her name with a 'z' instead of an 's'; luckily, pens are easy to come by.
Sarah talks to the Couple
I think it was so she could take off early. Bad Sarah!
Clink-Kiss
The flash adds *something* to this shot, though perhaps it also takes just as much away.
Mingling
Behold! The tables mix! (And I get a picture of Mom...)
Cake
In its unmolested state. It's not as cool as the one that Mel made, though.
Heading to Cut the Cake
So many ceremonies.
Mid-Cutting Kiss
They really are happy.
Awaiting Instruction
Well, do *you* know what the whole procedure is?
Instruction Arrives
Wedding planners are helpful sometimes.
Cutting Commences
Alliteration rocks.
More Cutting
Need a close-up of the knife...
Close-up of the Knife
...like, say, this!
Cameras
Everybody gets shots of these things. Heh.
Feeding Mel
It was even edible (non-chocolate!) Hooray!
Feeding Ray
The flash-light from the mirror is easier to handle here, at least.
Fleeing the Cake
...before the cake fight to end all cake fights begins, and the tuxes are destroyed. A sensible plan.
Rene
I hadn't seen Rene for years; man, she looks good!
Jesse and Sarah
They're off to New Mexico together next month. *smile* I wish them the best of luck...
Mel and the Erins
They hadn't seen each other for, what, five years?
Mel and the Erins, II
Best friends of old, together again. If Ray and Mel needed a reason to get married, this'd do it.
Andrew and Nicole
What to say? This was where I first met her, and she did a good job of introducing herself...
Bill
He was probably the most normally dressed of my friends at the wedding. So deceptive, Bill...
Bouqet Toss
Why couldn't I go for it? Grr.
Bouqet Targets
I could have taken 'em!
Bouquet Toss - Victor!
Well, at least theoretically.
Victor, for real
Mel has informed me that her name is Amanda. Hooray! Another of Mel's friends, named!
Posing with Bouqet
They do look happy; of course, the photographer got something better, I'm sure.
Garter Toss
I had to get this shot quick so I could get into this one...
Garter Targets
Don't I look calm? Composed? Yeah. Sure.
Garter Toss Commences
Guess who wants it the most?
Garter Toss - Victor!
Hehehe! Now I have a matched set!
My Garter
To complete the triple crown, I must now marry myself to myself. I wonder how the Republican Party feels about self-marriage?
First Dance
As is tradition, too many pictures must be taken of this dance.
First Dance, II
Many of these pictures will have red-eye.
First Dance, III
...or inadequate lighting. (How did I get back there, anyway?)
First Dance, IV
But the love will be apparent anyway.
First Dance, V
Even thrthe strange facial expressions.
Pre-Dancing Resting
Eva, Sean, and Belle take a break from...nothing yet.
Father-Daughter Dance
"Why are there so many songs about rainbows..."
Father-Daughter Dance, II
"...and what's on the other side?"
Father-Daughter Dance, III
The Rainbow Connection was the first song I heard in a movie. It really is one of my favorites, and I know it's a lot of others'... And yet, I was still shocked when they said they were going to use it.
Watching the Dancing
It was sweet. Touching. Moving.
Watching the Dancing, II
I know many tears were shed during that dance...
Mother-Son Dance
I think I had only met Ray's parents once before the wedding, so I have hard time really gauging their emotions, but the pride and love certainly came through.
Mother-Son Dance, II
They should have done Rainbow Connection again, though.
Bouqet and Garter
I'm glad Beth isn't the jealous type. I was in a good position there...
Bouquet and Garter, II
Sadly, the garter was later lost. Still, Amanda and I looked quite cute together here (The photographer got a shot of that too, which I'd better get a copy of.)
Wedding Party Dances
Pairing off with our partners, because it's the right thing to do. Let's get this party started!
Sarah and Tim
Again, I'm glad Beth's not the jealous type.
Wedding Party Dances, II
John and Erin; Jill and Ken. Whee.
Wedding Party Dances - Jacob and Charlotte
Awww....
Wedding Party Dances - Tim and Sarah
Note my garter. (Also note that Sarah stole the garter by the end of the night...)
Jacob and Charlotte, Again
With the added bonus of advertising our DJ! Whee!
Tunji and Smoot
So happy to see each other... FOR NOW. Oh, wait, I shouldn't be foreboding.
Bill and Duck
Here you can tell the difference between Bill and Duck: Bill's evil is visible in the eyes; Duck's is not.
Real Dancing
Well, find, just not slow dancing. And some are still doing that anyway. Fine, I just didn't want to sit down yet...
More Real Dancing
I'm sure I looked ridiculous, but did I care? Baah!
Dancing w/Belle
Now came the time of dragging people onto the floor because they wouldn't come themselves...that, and I was really happy to see Belle. (And Pat.)
John and Mel
I'm still amused by that hair.
Swinging Darren
Beware his long reach and sharp dance partners!
Pat and Erin
I think Pat wore the hat just so he'd be more recognizable. Heh.
Ray and Caitte
Kinda out of focus, but I gotta hold onto shots of the Short One.
Mid-Dancing Discussion
How dare they talk during the dancing! (f course, what do you think I'm doing?)
Darren Dances
I think the purpose of Darren going to weddings is to fling girls around for a few hours.
Hip Skirv
Look! I dance! Whee!
Mel and Blake
Does it really matter if he's out of the "girls are icky" stage yet? (I'm in the background too.)
Char and Mike
I think that's the first shot where I thought that Charlotte looked like Mel. Odd.
Tunji and Smoot, II
Never seen Tunji in a headlock before. Not me.
Calm Tunji
Look! The two aren't fighting!
Caitte and Randall Dance
There's lots of dancing pictures, in case you hadn't noticed.
Swinging the Bride
Mel enjoys it at least. And she doesn't fall over much.
Caitte and Tim
I love my sister. I really do.
Caitte and Tim, II
Seeing her was one of the top pleasures of the night...
Mel and Hadas
I'm not sure why Hadas looks weird here, but... it's not far off, just a bit odd. Probably just different hair than the last time I saw her.
Rebecca and Tim Dance
*smile*
Tunji and Smoot, III
I love how fast we fall back into our old patterns.
Erin and Ray
They'd been friends for years, I guess they get a dance...
Tunji
Already getting drunk. Heh.
Duck
Carrying one of the old poppers. He's happy.
Sean and Rachel
These folks I should see more often. But...
John, Andrew, and Nicole
Nicole seemed cool. And it's always nice to hang out with Andrew, if for no other reason than to compare notes on our workplaces...
Beth and Pat
She actually had a good time! I was shocked.
Hadas
How many years had it been since I'd seen her? Three? Four?
Ray's Sister's Table
As usual, I wish I knew their names. Besides Cindy and Blake, anyway.
Dancing Galore
It was self-supporting by then, but we were stil lenjoying ourselves.
Kevin and Jill
A little private time. Just a little.
Rebecca and Tim
I had missed their engagement party; this kinda made up for it. (Don't forget Kevin either.)
Watching From Afar
Well, Bill spotted me doing it anyway.
Old Folks, Plus Smoot
It looks like Rene's looking to claw out Caitte's heart, though. That's bad. But Smoot's look is good.
Hair
Rene, DB, and Caitte's hair styles are very different. (Yeah, I'm stretching here...but I kept 366 pictures for this wedding. 366!)
Jeff and Tim
You know, we really do get along pretty well. I should take greater note of this fact.
Y
I think this was YMCA. I hope it was. I certainly look interesting, though...
Belle and Seal
A very dapper hat, don't you think?
Rene and Mike
Mike, who is pretty drunk by this time, really is having a good time. As is Rene, to be honest. Okay, fine, we all were... except maybe a few of us weren't drunk, but were still having a good time.
Tunji and Smoot, IV
The headlocks continue! So drunk, both of 'em...
More dancing
Isn't Darren's shirt shiny?
Darren and Caitte
That's a gleeful look on Caitte's face. Neat.
Rene and Tim
I need to talk to Rene more often. I really do.
Rockin' Girl
And so enter the inflatable props! That's what we needed. Props!
Rockin' Eva
Shake it, Eva, shake it!
Rachel and Eva fill in for the rest of us by continuing to dance.
Pat's Keyboard
He liked that keyboard. Oh yes he did!
Belle
"Why can't I have an inflatable guitar?"
Dancing, Dancing, Dancing
Rachel and Eva fill in for the rest of us by continuing to dance.Dancing, Dancing, Dancing
Andrew and Nicole, Resting
At least they have instruments.
Dancing Skirv
Beth enjoyed getting some shots of me dancing to Disco songs.
Tim and Pat
We're having far too good a time, you know...
Tim, Eva, and Mel Dance
So...happy...
Erin, Ken, and Ray
The old Edwardsville crowd, drunk and happy.
...and Gen makes Four
Gotta add more people into our little circle, eh?
Rocking Out
Pat and Tim play our inflatable instruments for all they're worth.
ROCK ON!
There was a slight shadow there, but man, they looked happy anyway. I love this shot.
Headbanging
I didn't know Caitte's hair could do that.
