Harry Potter 7 Release Party - 19-20 Jul 2007

Unlike the previous two years, this time I went to Borders in Champaign for the Harry Potter book release book party. While I was not as rabid about this as most of the ~1,000 people that attended the event, I did manage to get one of the first copies (#15 in line; Dad actually stood in for me), and got a lot of good pictures in the meantime. And Beth, poor Beth, she had to run the line to buy the book...

I liked the book, though.

Images
Initial Crowds
I really didn't expect this many people there, and this was just the beginning!
Beth
Dressed up as a witch for the event, she looked really good and smiley the whole time.
Anna
A new friend, with more glitter than just about anyone else there.
Hannah
One of Anna's friends, with her very own Sorting Hat! (Admittedly, this is the kind of random merchandise I'd like.)
Harry Potter Kids
"I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Harry Potter Kid!"
Costume Contest
Interviewing a Luna Lovegood, I believe.
Costume Line
I really couldn't guess who everyone is supposed to be, and I never had a good enough spot to be able to see it all anyway for context.
Death-Eater and Hagrid
Those are my guesses, anyway.
Shaun
Hey, somebody I know!
Tim and Beth
This is actually a good picture of the two of us. Note that I at least pretended to dress up (from the waist up).
Raffle Signup
They were raffling off a chance to be first in line.
Food Line
Lines for everything!
Jack and Dana
Again, it was good to find somebody I knew and wanted to talk to.
Playing with a Camera
This guy was trying harder to get shots of the costume contest than I was willing to do.
Beth
*smile*
Shocked Beth
I think she'd appreciate it if I stopped taking her picture here. I like the eyeshadow, though, and I don't say stuff like that often!
Customer Service With A Smile
I think she's a bit overwhelmed.
Karen, Charles, and Bethany
I know the girls out of them. I think that's Bryan's leg on the left, too.
Mark
My assistant and an appropriately aged person to be there. Kindof.
Dani
I liked that outfit. And it's a good picture of Dani!
Meg and Friend
I don't know who the friend is, though.
Zeb and Klara
I guess that Klara is dressed up. Kindof.
Harry Potter Truck
Or at least that's what it was scrolling.
Bedlam
Going back in was harder this time.
Face Painting
Scars for all!
Darren
It took a while, but I did find him.
Klara and Zeb
Playing Mario Kart while waiting to get in line.
Dad
It took *way* too long to find him in the mess...
Sonja
Good picture, as soon as I could remember her name. (Not Stephanie!)
Deanna
One of Sarah's friends, along for the ride more than anything.
All Lined Up
Hiro, Deanna, Sonja, Sarah, Dad, Dan
Number 15
Dad liked waiting in line; it let him be a bit silly.
Number 100
The last of the first. Whoo!
Guy from Comic Store
Another guy whose name I don't remember. This is why it took so long for me to get these pictures up...
Costumed Line
Reading Manga while they're waiting.
Excited Random People
I really didn't know who these guys were, but they really wanted their picture taken.
Michael
Hey! It's been a while since I've seen Michael...
Costumes
The problem with Harry Potter stuff is that the costumes can be fairly generic. I doubt they were anybody in specific, but I could easily be wrong.
Jack
One of many kids waiting in line that evening.
Prepared Workers
Waiting for the coming horde.
Organizing the Line
Beth was Line Lord for the evening. That had to have been a tough job...
First Box of Books
To be opened right at the hour.
Kevin and Books
I've been told that the guy here is Kevin, who won the costume contest as Lupin. I don't know about the girl, but I presume she was Luna Lovegood.
Photographing the Box
Others have the same ideas as me. Well, close.
Wheeling More In
Here they come!
Hidden from View
I wonder what those could be?
About to Start
One final smile from my love before it all begins.
The Books
That's a lot of books.
The First Purchase
This girl (her name was Rachel) won the raffle to buy the first book.
Happy Winner
Congratulations! Now you get to go read it!
Serving the Customers
Now the other few thousand people had to be served.
Dad in Line
You can see him waving back there...
Three Copies
Everybody needs the book!
Dad Checks Out
Of course, he had to cause trouble; he had to wait for the Book On Tape, which was still in the back.
Success!
He made it out with the books!
First Book On Tape
This is the first one sold there.
Tim and Bob
We both survived the ordeal. Happily, Beth did too, but we wouldn't know that for a few hours...
Reading and Smoking
This doesn't seem like the most comfortable place to read it, and I suspect that she had skipped ahead a few pages... but more power to her.
