The Program
His name is down there on the lower right somewhere; and yes, they do graduate a fair number of people every year, why do you ask? |
The Band
A jazz band started things out for the afternoon. I liked them a lot. |
Our Group
Danny brought a good number of people along to see him graduate. (Beth, Margaret, Mom, Grandpa Bob, and Ben) |
The Crowd
Not that taking pictures in Foellinger Great Hall at Krannert is very helpful... |
Balcony with Tripods
They made me get rid of my tripod when I came in, so I'm pretty jealous that people on the balcony got to keep theirs. Hmmph. |
Shocked Beth
She always seems confused when I pull out my camera and try to get shots of her. |
Wistful Beth
It's kindof like she posed! |
Procession Enters
The first to enter are the faculty and the professors that will be hooding the students. |
The Faculty
There quite a lot of 'em, really. |
Dad
Dad got to hood Danny, so he got to be in that first section of the procession. |
Enter the Students
Here come the hordes! |
Marianne in Line
Marianne was Danny's roommate for much of Vet school. |
Marianne
I even got a decent shot of her... |
Celeste in Line
Definitely the best in-line shot I got during this crowd. |
Celeste
Not too bad for such a quick turnaround and cranky flash! |
Danny in Line
There he is! This whole graduation thing wasn't a lie! |
Danny
A bit washed out, but at least I got a shot. |
Hordes of Students
Gathering to sit down together one last time. |
Full Assortment
Both students and faculty are gathered, and ready to begin. |
Smiling Mom
Can you guess whether she's proud from this picture? |
Speaker #1
The head of the school, perhaps? I forget. |
Speaker #2
She's a bit smaller, if it wasn't obvious. |
Starting to March
And they all stand up and prepare to go through the hooding ceremony. |
Marianne Prepares to Walk
The first of the people I realy know starts up to get hooded... |
Marianne is Hooded
...and fails to be too badly strangled! |
Marianne, Shaking Hands
And she's done... on to the next! |
Celeste, In Line
Almost time to go up; and I've gotten a lot closer to the stage. |
Hooding Celeste
Definitely my best hooding picture. |
Celeste, Shaking Hands
She was blinking a lot, but at least she was smiling! |
Danny and Dad
I had gotten *really* close by this point. |
Danny, about to the Hooded
He didn't know that Dad would accidently strangle him (like most people in the line; hooding is hard, apparently!) |
Hooding Danny
This isn't as good as the picture that the photographer got, but it gets the idea across. They were *both* just so proud! |
Danny Shakes Hands
That's a proud little brother. |
A Sarah Is Hooded
Another of the lucky no-strangulation types. |
Taking the Oath
I wish it had been the Green Lantern oath. |
Moving the Tassle
Making themselves Doctors, I guess. |
Lots of Applause
Why is the audience so impressed? Hmm... |
Speaking for the Class
You could tell that the ex-student just wanted to keep it short. |
Proceeding Out
I don't think any of them caught their robes on the bannister, impressively. |
Dad Escapes
Getting out while the getting's good. |
Celeste Escapes
Look at that masterful not-getting-the-arm-caught! |
Smiling Danny
I need a better lens for moments like this. |
Posing Begins
Once the ceremony was over, the important part - getting final shots with everyone under the sun - was able to begin. |
My Crowd
Dad stands by proudly with Marianne, Danny, and Celeste. |
Adjusting for Pictures
Beth took the camera to get some pictures of the Skirvin guys. (Tim, Bob, Danny) |
Posing Skirvins
Congratulations, little brother! |
Celeste's Mother's Side
I would have been a better person if I remembered their names. (Celeste, Celeste's Mom, Celeste's Grandma) |
Celeste and Grandmas
And her father; again, names would have been helpful. |
Celeste and Brother
He doesn't look as proud as I looked for Danny. But at least he's taller than his sibling... |
Danny and Dover
I like that Ben got Danny's cap. |
Danny, Celeste, and Dover
It's just like Dover graduated too! |
Skirvin Clan
Danny, Grandpa Bob, Margie, Tim, Bob |
Posing Group #1
I don't know who these people are... |
Posing Group #2
...but obviously, Danny did. |
Posing Group #3
Actually, I think the first girl there is a Sarah. See? I'm competent! |
Posing Group #4
So, it's Danny and Sarah! |
Admiring Dad in Robes
He really does look good in 'em. Oddly professional. |
Mom and Dad
Their childrens' education is finally paid off entirely! Look at their joy! |
Waiting for the Alma Mater
There are always long lines to take pictures at the Alma Mater after graduation; it's more fun when there's also rain. Hehe. |
Clean Table
This table spent about nine years messy. I figure that it's a nice thing to get at least one good picture of it after it was cleaned. |
Danny and the Clean Table
Danny did a lot of the cleaning work... |
Sheba on the Clean Table
I like how offended she seems about it. |
Danny and Ben
This is a really excellent picture of the two of them. I'm impressed. |
Dad and the Grandmas
Our family is always good at hanging out wiht the older folks. |
Danny's Box
"Why thank you, what a thoughtful gift!" |
Danny's Award
The thing was, it actually *was* a thoughtful gift. It's Dad's 30-years-of-UIUC-working award, with an extra engraving of "from the old Dr. Skirvin to the young Dr. Skirvin, congratulations!". Dad was proud. |
Celeste's Rubber Chicken
That thing made one of the most wonderful hideous noises ever. Hooray! |
Celeste Gifts
Baah, that stethoscops is far too practical! |
Grandpa Bob
I'm glad that we got one Grandparent out to see Danny make it through. |
Danny and Celeste's Chair
Danny took this chair with him out to Phoenix... *sniff* I really do miss him already. |
