One of the prizes in the annual Doodle
for Wildlife auction, in support of the Wildlife Medical Clinic, was an
apple-picking trip at the University farms, provided by my family (my
brother is a graduate of the Vet program, and used to work for the
Wildlife Ward). I came along, partially as a photographer and partially
to eat a couple of apples.

Family Picking The kids always have the most fun out in the orchard.
Lecturing Dad Dad is always in his element when he gets to explain horticultural pursuits to... well, anybody.
Labelled Apples Melrose and Novia; this is one way to keep track of them.

Picking Pose Thank you for standing still, so I could get a picture of someone actually doing the work!
Cutting the Apple It wastes less apples to just give out tasting samples. It leads to less exploded stomachs, too.
Discussing Apples I tried to get a couple of posed shots of this afterwards, but it didn't work out.
Looking for Apples There were apples there once, honest!

Sharing with Kids Dad always enjoys teaching kids the most.

Kid With Stick Eventually, the games turned to sticks, as they always do.
Cutting the Apple I admit, I can't identify which apple it is from this distance.

Chopped Apple That's an apple, in case you didn't know what one looked like. (Is it a Cortland? I think it is!)

Happy Kid Sticks make everything better.

Apple Retrieval Reaching for the last apple on a tree can take some effort.
More Lecturing I had to take off shortly after this, but I was able to get a last few pictures of Dad lecturing.
More Lecturing, II It's always good when he has props (especially edible ones).

More Lecturing, III I've never been clear on how much of that skill I inherited; probably at least some of it.
More Lecturing, IV I think that everybody had a good time listening and eating.
