Once again, I took time off from my week to visit my Dad's apple
taste-testing lab, just
like
in
previous
years. The big news
of this year is that Beth's family also came along, and that I had
forgotten my camera. Luckily, I was buying Dad a new one that day, so I
got to experiment with a camera that wasn't set up quite like I was
expecting...

The Apple Lab "Skirvin's Hort 100 Apple Cultivar Evaluation Lab". It's a very officious name.
Early Tables The tables get set up while the students are lectured to.
Missy Still, there are no good pictures of her... well, this isn't really too bad.
Washington Reds They're not good apples. Don't eat them.
Beth's Family Marcia is actually one of Paul's clients, who donated a scholarship to the school; and she wanted to see Dad's lecture. So Linda and Paul both came down.
Students are Out And I'm using a Digital Rebel in RAW mode.
Lots of Students I never get sick of taking these pictures, and I never figure out how to label them.
More Students You can't even see the apples this time.

Empty Table One fact of life in the lab is that students congregate at the front first, before spreading out. This is silly. (Anna, Sarah)
Watchers Mom has been recruiting her friends to cut apples for a while, which is generally a good idea.
Apple Cutting Of course, Dad recruits some of the cutters too.
Dad and Student With the sign, which is always helpful.
Linda Beth's Mom. She was enjoying the people, and the apples.
Dad, Paul, and Marcia Dad is good at dropping back into lecture mode with little notice.
The Trailing End The students still hadn't made it over to the end in force.
The Rest But they were coming...
Missy, II Much worse than the last picture.
More Posing Students I should really find out their names next time.
Mark Dad's grad student, organizing things as usual.
Final Notes I believe they were figuring out which apple they liked best.
Taking Notes Well, taking the quiz, same thing.
Wrapping Up The lab always eventually comes to an end, and things get calm again. It's nice. And then we get to go out for food...
